Leave With A Permanent Crown In One Visit
CEREC digital scanning and in-office milling can restore a qualifying damaged tooth without a temporary crown or a separate placement appointment.
01
Restore Strength Without Waiting On A Lab
A tooth weakened by a fracture, large filling, decay, or wear may need more coverage than a filling can provide. A dental crown surrounds the prepared tooth to restore its shape, protect remaining structure, and support comfortable function.
Embark Dental uses CEREC technology to design, make, and place same day dental crowns in the Asheville office. When this option is appropriate, Dr. Marc Gonzalez and the team can complete the permanent restoration during one visit instead of placing a temporary crown and waiting for an outside laboratory.
02
When A Crown May Be Recommended
A crown may be considered for:
- A cracked or fractured tooth
- A tooth with a very large or failing filling
- Decay that leaves too little structure for a filling
- A worn or weakened tooth
- A tooth that needs coverage after other restorative care
- A visible tooth that needs structural and cosmetic repair
Not every damaged tooth can be restored with a crown, and not every crown can be completed in one day. The tooth, gumline, bite, treatment complexity, and selected material all influence the plan.
03
How Same-Day Crown Care Works
First, your dentist examines the tooth and takes any needed images. The area is numbed, damaged structure is removed, and the tooth is prepared for its restoration.
A CEREC digital scanner records the shape of the prepared tooth and nearby teeth without a traditional waxy impression. The crown is designed digitally, then made in the office with a milling unit that can produce a single crown in about 18 minutes. The complete appointment takes longer because examination, preparation, design, finishing, and placement are also required.
Your dentist checks the crown’s fit, contacts, bite, and appearance before bonding it in place. You leave with the permanent restoration rather than a temporary crown.
04
Why Patients Value A One-Visit Crown
The main benefit is fewer appointments. A same-day crown can also remove the need to protect a temporary restoration between visits. Digital scanning may be more comfortable for patients who dislike traditional impression material.
Convenience does not replace careful planning. The restoration still needs to fit your bite, seal the prepared tooth, and blend with nearby teeth. The team takes time to evaluate those details before placement.
Questions, answered
Same Day Dental Crown FAQs
Can Every Crown Be Completed In One Visit?+
No. Same-day care depends on the tooth, procedure, restorative material, and clinical situation. Your dentist will explain if a laboratory-made restoration or different treatment is more appropriate.
Will I Need A Temporary Crown?+
When a CEREC same-day crown is completed as planned, you do not need a temporary crown because the permanent restoration is made and placed during the visit.
How Long Is The Appointment?+
The milling unit can make a single crown quickly, but the full appointment also includes preparation, digital scanning, design, fit checks, finishing, and bonding. Ask the team for a scheduling estimate based on your tooth.
What Does A Same-Day Crown Look Like?+
The crown is made from tooth-colored restorative material and designed to fit the treated tooth and surrounding bite. Exact color and appearance depend on the case and material.
How Do I Care For My Crown?+
Brush twice daily, clean between the crowned tooth and its neighbors, and attend regular exams. Avoid using teeth to open packages or bite hard nonfood objects.
What If My Tooth Is Broken Or Painful Now?+
Call 828-771-6319 and describe what happened. The team can help determine the right appointment type. A same-day crown is only recommended after the tooth is examined.

Real Same-Day Cases At Embark Dental
Embark Dental has documented same-day crowns and ceramic onlays for individual patients with fractured teeth, failing large fillings, and extensive decay. One patient received two same-day crowns from Dr. Gonzalez in a single visit. Treatment and results vary.
07
Ask Whether Your Tooth Qualifies
If a tooth is cracked, worn, or built around a large filling, an exam can clarify whether it needs a crown and whether same-day care is appropriate. Request an appointment at Embark Dental in Asheville.

Caring For A Same-Day Crown
Completing a crown in one visit removes the temporary-crown phase, but the restored tooth still needs ongoing care. Wait until numbness has resolved before chewing so you do not injure your lip or cheek. Then brush normally and clean at the crown edges every day. The ceramic restoration cannot develop decay, but the natural tooth at its margin remains vulnerable to plaque and cavities.
A new crown may feel noticeable at first because its contour replaces damaged tooth structure. Contact Embark Dental if the bite feels high, floss repeatedly catches or shreds, or discomfort increases rather than settles. An examination can distinguish a bite adjustment from nerve irritation, gum soreness, or another issue. Avoid trying to smooth or adjust the crown at home.
Like any restoration, a same-day crown can be affected by grinding, clenching, hard foods, trauma, and changes elsewhere in the bite. A protective nightguard may be discussed when wear patterns suggest heavy nighttime forces. Routine examinations allow the dentist to check the crown’s edges, ceramic, contacts, and supporting tooth so concerns can be addressed before they become more extensive.
09
When One-Visit Care May Not Fit
Digital same-day technology is useful for many damaged teeth, but clinical needs come first. The condition of the tooth, location of the margin, moisture control, material requirements, and complexity of the restoration may affect whether one-visit fabrication is recommended. Additional treatment may also be needed if decay is deep or the nerve is involved. The dentist will explain whether the crown can be designed and delivered that day or whether another sequence is more appropriate. Same-day describes the workflow, not a shortcut around diagnosis or preparation.
